Fourteen residents living near to the compressor station were welcomed to the site to get an  insight into the day-to-day operations and an overview of our planned project. We recognise the importance of discussing our proposals with residents early, providing a sounding board for local people and addressing any concerns. The visitors were given  a short talk explaining the role of National Gas, an update on the project, and a safety briefing before a tour of the site. 

During the visit, residents were reassured by the importance we place on  regular monitoring and safety protocols. There was particular interest in emissions and our future role in energy and decarbonising the network. We were able to showcase the engineering practicalities of the site, including restrictions on the placement of future assets. 

The support of our communities is incredibly valuable to us. Local knowledge and intelligence help us to understand specific constraints and local priorities, as well as providing additional eyes to report any issues to our site teams. 

Construction Lead Project Manager, Jordan Wright, said: “We’ve worked hard to build positive relationships with the community, attending Parish Council meetings to present our planned works and volunteering earlier in the year. Offering the local community an opportunity to see a working site focuses their understanding of the important role it plays at the heart of the nation’s energy system. It was great to see so many of them were interested in attending, enthusiastically asking questions about the project and the site.”
