National Gas Transmission

National Gas Transmission owns and operates the gas National Transmission System (NTS) – a vast pipeline network that transports gas from terminals and ports to every part of Britain. The gas transported in our pipelines plays a critical role in meeting Britain’s energy needs, helping to power electricity generation, to fuel industrial processes and to heat businesses and homes. It also provides the energy security needed to help Britain achieve its net zero carbon objectives in the coming decades.

The NTS comprises around 5,000 miles of pipeline, 65 compressors at 21 compressor stations and more than 500 above-ground installations, transporting gas to wherever it is needed quickly, safely and efficiently. The NTS is the backbone of Britain’s energy system today, and will support the UK’s transition to a clean energy future.

National Gas Metering is one of the largest meter equipment managers in Britain. Our expertise and equipment enable homes and businesses to access the energy they need safely and reliably. We maintain and oversee millions of diverse, and in some cases highly complex, gas metering installations throughout the UK.  

We ensure meters perform reliably, accurately and in compliance with strict regulatory standards. We use advanced engineering technologies and innovative methods to provide high-performance metering and outstanding levels of customer service. With a focus on precision, reliability and safety, we ensure that these vital assets meet the needs of homes, businesses and industry.

National Gas Services

National Gas Services is Britain's trusted authority in planned and emergency gas pipeline inspection, repair, maintenance and replacement services. Our in-house expertise, skills and nationwide resources enable us to provide a complete one-stop shop for all types of pipeline intervention work, on any scale.

We provide a 24/7 emergency response service, along with a full range of maintenance, inspection and repair services for strategic gas assets. Our six depots across England, Scotland and Wales enable our engineers to provide a rapid response to any gas pipeline emergency. Our expertise spans the wide range of materials and pressures used in both the National Transmission System (NTS) and regional Gas Distribution Networks (GDNs).

Premtech

National Gas also owns Premtech, a highly respected design and engineering consultancy, providing multi-disciplinary services for onshore gas and oil pipeline projects, as well as future net zero technologies including hydrogen and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

• Sustainable energy: National Gas has an ambition to be net zero by 2040 for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. We have a clear decarbonisation strategy and emissions-reduction roadmap. We are at the forefront of hydrogen innovation, helping to develop a hydrogen network for Britain.
