Major incident response

The Emergency

Following a gas explosion in Croydon, several houses were destroyed and a stretch of 36" medium pressure cast iron main was leaking. This meant the heavily populated area needing to be evacuated and the leak on the gas main made safe as quickly as possible.

The Solution

The network owner dropped the pressure to LP and National Gas Services were called in to make safe and isolate the section via a double 36" bag off operation with cold cuts. Once this was completed, we assisted SGN with further works by carrying out a double 36" large diameter stopple to isolate and totally remove the section of pipework, so it could be investigated further by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
