Non-operational land
Around our operational sites there is a buffer zone of non-operational land, which may be used by third parties for a variety of purposes. This land is managed on our behalf by trusted partner, Fisher German.
What is non-operational land?
National Gas owns sites of varying size across Great Britain, where our compressor stations, terminals and above-ground installations are located. This operational land is bounded by an inner fence line. The land around this operational area is primarily used as a buffer zone. This area of ‘non-operational land’ varies in size and, while it may appear unused, it could contain underground pipework.
How is non-operational land used?
The way non-operational land is used varies from site to site. In some cases, it may be used by third parties for a range of activities – from agricultural use, such as grazing, to commercial use. In other cases, it may be used to create natural habitats to support biodiversity, or for screening around the site, particularly in built-up areas.
